Natural Movement:

Some people think that this occurance of "Natural Hair" seen on TV and the Streets is a passing phase.
I one person who has struggled with my natural hair journey am inspired with the options, information and over all empowerment the this "movement" has given us Natural Ones such as my self.  It is encouraging to see the sistah with the natural in the work place and not be seen as the odd one! Yaay for us! We ROCK!!

Hair Growth!

Got this from:

Natural Hair Community:

There are many women online right now looking for ways to grow
longer hair. Some are watching YouTube videos, while others are
digging through countless threads on natural hair forums looking
for a few tips that might speed up their growth rate.

Some women right now are considering a biotin regimen and wondering
if biotin for hair growth really works. Others are intently looking
for cute protective styles to encourage length retention. Some are
looking for help by way of a new natural hair product or hoping
that a recently discovered miracle natural hair recipe will boost
their growth rate.

Regardless of what you've tried to increase the growth rate of your
hair, you can take comfort in the fact that there is a really good
chance that your hair is growing right now. It was most likely
growing yesterday and will be growing consistently for a long
period of time. That's because your hair grows in distinct phases
that occur over and over again several times throughout your life.

Anagen Phase

The anagen phase is often referred to as the growth phase. During
this phase your hair is growing. Approximately 90 percent of the
hair on your scalp will be in the anagen phase at any given time.
The average rate of growth is roughly ½ inch per month or 6 inches
per annum. It's important to note that the rate of growth can vary
greatly depending on several things - including your age, your sex
and where the hair is growing on your body (ex. scalp, arms, legs).

Research shows that typically scalp hair grows more quickly in
females than in males. Furthermore, the general thought is that
hair grows pretty rapidly up until the average person reaches age
30, at that point hair growth may begin to slow down. The growth
rate is thought to rapidly slow down once an individual reaches age
50.

The anagen phase can last for quite some time. In most people, the
anagen phase lasts from roughly three to five years. However, there
are individuals that have very long anagen phases - up to 10 years
or more.

Catagen Phase

The catagen phase is a short transition period that signifies the
end of the anagen phase (growth phase). During this phase, there
are structural changes occurring to the hair follicle, bulb and
dermal papilla. The details of these changes are outside the scope
of this discussion. However, it's important to note that the
catagen phase is very short lasting on average just one to two
weeks.

Telogen Phase

The telogen phase is often referred to as the resting phase. During
this phase your hair is resting. As the growth cycle prepares to
return to the anagen phase several things are occurring. Most
notably your hair is either shed during the current telogen phase
as it prepares for new hair during the anagen phase. Or, the hair
can remain in place until a new hair growing from beneath pushes it
out during the anagen phase.

On average, the telogen phase lasts for approximately three to six
months. On a percentage basis, roughly 10 percent of your scalp
hair will be in the telogen phase at any given time. Once the
telogen phase ends, the hair's growth cycle restarts.

Today: Encouragement : Joel Osteen : Have a good Day!

Did you know that when you do something to the best of your ability because you want to honor God, it opens the door to His blessing? That means it will be easier, it will go better, and you will accomplish more. That’s why no matter what we do, we should give it our best. This is especially true even in the little things. For example, when you’re doing the dishes or mowing the lawn, don’t drag around sour and frustrated. Mow with enthusiasm! Mow it like you’re on a mission from God. With every step, thank God that your legs work. Thank Him that you’re healthy and strong. At the office, don’t just do enough to get by. You’re not working unto people, you’re working unto God. Do it with your whole heart. When you volunteer at church, don’t wake up and think, “Awe, man. Why did I volunteer? I want to sleep in!” No, serve Him with all your heart because that’s what honors God. When you honor God, He’ll honor you. He’ll give you His life, peace, health and blessing now and forevermore!
